Maths was born out of a desire to explain the world around us. It is the very language of science. Without it, physics, chemistry, engineering and architecture would never have developed as they have. Whilst materials science built the rocket that took man to the moon, mathematics provided the calculations that determined the flight-path and allowed for a safe return. Mathematics also has elements of philosophy and logic. It develops the skills and rigour you need for solving problems.
